Hey, y'all! Sam here with yet another blog post. Today, I'll be answering the question "Is it really important to ride with a helmet?"
Well, that question doesn't have a direct answer, but let me put it the easiest way possible: Do YOU want to keep riding? Or would you rather fall of one day and get a traumatic brain injury? If your answer is "yes" to the first question and "no" to the second one, then you should probably wear a helmet.
People die from horseback riding all the time. I don't mean to scare you, and you probably already know by now, but horseback riding is extremely dangerous. No matter how good your horse is. No matter how experienced you are. So why wouldn't you try to be safe?
Because a helmet's itchy and uncomfortable? Because it's just another thing to keep track of? Heck, y'all! Isn't keeping yourself safe worth such a small sacrifice? I mean, if a helmet were the line between life and death, wouldn't you choose a helmet?
Another reason a person might choose not to wear a helmet is, well, they've been put under the impressions that true, experienced horseback riders don't wear helmets. That wearing a helmet makes you look like a noob.
If someone ever thinks that you're a noob just because you wear a helmet, then that person obviously knows very little about horsemanship. Instead of judging capability by what they wear on their head, that person should judge capability by how they ride. You can tell who's new to being on a horse's back vs. who's been in a saddle all their lives quite easily just by the way they ride. Not by whether they wear a helmet.
I wear a helmet every time I ride. Trail rides, bareback, saddled, anything! When I ride, I always wear a helmet. Heck, I got the helmet before I got my horse! Guess what? I have a very sweet and gentle horse who has great footing. I've been riding for years, and I'm very experienced (especially for my age 😉). Why do I wear a helmet? Because I want to keep riding.
Anyway, that about covers it. Comment below on whether this blog post changed YOUR perspective! Sam out!
